My first brand new Toyota - RAV4 Limited

I got my new Limited 2 months after special ordering one. It is a very nice vehicle, albeit a little bland driving experience due to the eCVT transmission. Toyota has provided lots of useful driver features but has a few misses.
1. No audio Mute button
2. No oil life monitor - even if it is a mileage countdown timer
3. Spare wheel is mounted upside down, one must take the wheel out to access the schrader valve to check the tire pressure (I rectified this by using a threaded rod and nut)

My sunglasses holder on the upper console does not properly latch - warranty issue.

I know a lot about automobiles as I was an ex engineer with a lifetime of driving/owning US GM and English Ford vehicles.

Welcome to the site @ping5 -- all legitimate complaints for sure, just some short sighted design decisions. This is the first I've heard about the sunglass holder.

Still, in the grand scheme of things, if those are the only problems you have I'd consider it a pretty good/lucky car! Hopefully nothing else creeps up! Glad to have you aboard!

Unfortunately, things have taken a turn for the worse. Two weeks ago, an idiotic driver side swiped me trying to beat a line of traffic. The resulting impact did not deploy any airbags but caused in access of $18k+ worth of damage. I estimated a diminished value to my vehicle at nearly $5k (car is just 2 months/2100 miles old) when reported to Carfax. The vehicle’s built in dash cams caught the whole event which was kind of nice.

At least you are OK, and it's a huge blessing that the airbags didn't deploy. Hopefully you get it worked out satisfactory with the insurance companies. Accidents are always such a huge pain
