Hi guys, I’m just about to pull the trigger and purchase the new rav4 PHEV, but I realized I have one critical concern…
My research indicates that the last generation rav4 prime would not let the gas engine run if you remote start it. This is a critical problem because heat pumps are only good to ~10c, and where I live it regularly goes colder than -30c.
Does anyone know if the new rav4 PHEV allows the gas engine to run when you remote start the car?
Or perhaps if you have the new rav4 PHEV, I thought up an easy test that I’d love if you could do…. If you deplete the traction battery, turn off the car, wait 5 mins, then try to remote start it (with the heat on max), will the car start its gas engine? Or will it simply deny remote start since the battery is dead?
If the gas engine doesn’t run in the above test, odds are high the gas engine won’t run if it’s cold out. But if it does start the gas engine, that’s a good indication that it’s at least possible, then hopefully Toyota automatically starts the engine in the cold!
